Welcome

I am a SNF Agora Academy Fellow in the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University. My research is broadly engaged in the fields of political sociology, economic sociology, organizations, public policy, socio-legal studies, and political economy.

My research investigates how the political workforce shapes the political activity of organizations like corporations, interest groups, lobbying firms, and non-profits. With a particular interest in their careers and social networks, I study how people in these organizations impact economic regulation, policymaking processes, and democratic representation. I use both qualitative and computational methods in my research, including participant observation, interviews, analysis of government records, sequence analysis, and network analysis. My research has been published in Socio-Economic Review and Socius, receiving awards from the American Sociological Association sections on Political Sociology and Organizations, Occupations and Work. I have also been featured in The New York Times and The American Prospect and frequently engage with policy organizations and policymakers.

I’ve taught classes in introductory sociology, research methods, public policy, and socio-legal studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and American University. Prior to academia, I worked in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. I hold a Ph.D. in sociology from UW-Madison and an A.B. in international affairs from Princeton University.
